San Francisco is a city that most people have on their bucket list of places to visit in the United States. It is no wonder because it is a city steeped in natural beauty, history, and culture. Haight Ashbury
When you get to the corner of Haight and Ashbury streets, you will feel like you are transported back to the 60s and 70s when the city was a well-known hub for the hippie culture. The neighborhood has a retro vibe with vintage clothing boutiques, unique bookstores, record shops and pop-culture monuments like the Grateful Dead House and stunning Victorian homes.
Savor the Views
There are many places to enjoy spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline and the bay. Some of the favorites are Treasure Island, the top of Coit Tower, or while walking across the historic Golden Gate Bridge. If you are up for a hike, the views from the summit at Corona Heights Park are unbelievable.
The Embarcadero
The Embarcadero is the name of the street running along the eastern waterfront. There are landmarks along the street like the Ferry Building, Exploratorium science museum, Fisherman’s Wharf, and Ghirardelli Square, where there is an endless amount of chocolate delicacies to enjoy. The ferry that leads to the well-known Alcatraz island leaves from Pier 33.
Historic Cable Cars
San Francisco has a complex transportation system that has buses, trains and subway system that runs throughout the city and to outlying suburbs. The city has kept the famous cable cars running, a staple of transportation in the city since 1873.
Sporting Events
The Bay area is home to many national sports teams, and depending on the season you can take in a game of baseball, basketball, hockey or football. The San Francisco Giants are located right in the San Francisco city proper, and it is just a short drive to attend a 49ers football game, Golden State Warriors basketball game or watch the San Jose Sharks play hockey.
Beyond City Limits
No matter what direction you travel outside of the city limits, you will find exciting adventures. Wine tasting is a popular day trip, and you can experience some of the world’s finest wines in the popular cities of Napa and Sonoma or head to one of the less well-known wine country destinations like Healdsburg and Sebastopol.
To the north and south, there are scenic drives that wind through the cliffs and offer views of the Pacific Ocean, the city skyline, Golden Gate bridge, beaches, and picturesque towns like Sausalito, Monterrey, and Carmel.
Shop ‘til You Drop
While there is shopping throughout the city, some of the most popular shopping districts include Union Square, the Westfield San Francisco Centre, and Haye’s Valley, which is home to three blocks of quaint shops and restaurants.
