Many people want to be highly successful, but not many people will do what it takes to become highly successful. The reality is that big success does not just fall into your lap. You probably know this, and you probably do some work toward getting the success that you want. That’s wonderful!
However, if you want to be among the minority that are HIGHLY successful, there’s certain characteristics that you ought to familiarize yourself with. These are the tips, tricks, and traits that separate the men from the boys. The amateurs from the pros. The mediocre from the masters.
Look at the following characteristics and make the intent to emulate them. Keep in mind that you can learn and apply these characteristics in your own life at any time on your journey toward success. Why not begin today?
- Set realistic goals
Planning is huge when it comes to being highly successful. Research, study, and create short and long-term goals. Write them down. Show them to your spouse, best friend, mentor, etc. Tape them to your wall and look at them every day. Highly successful people put the time in to contemplate and set goals.
- Act, whether they feel like it or not
But setting goals isn’t enough. You’ve got to ACT on them, whether you feel like it or not. You might see someone who is highly successful and think, “Wow. I want to be like him,” but you don’t see behind the scenes. He’s putting in the time, and he’s putting the time in wisely. He’s not trading hours for dollars, but he is using leverage. He’s leveraging his expertise, skills, and doing what he knows to do in order to maintain his success. He’s consistent, methodical, and works toward accomplishing his goals little by little, one day at a time.
- Provide the best customer service
Highly successful men and women understand the importance of providing superior customer service or communication skills. By “superior”, I mean among the best they’ve ever gotten. The kind that they’ll go home telling their family about. If your contacts or customers are not thrilled with you or your product/service, they are not as likely to want to deal with you. Develop excellent communication skills and treat each customer or client like a king or a queen.
- Make themselves a primary investment
Highly successful men and women invest in themselves on a continual basis. They’re not afraid to let go of some “bank” in the process either. That seminar that costs a few hundred dollars? Done. That class that costs a couple grand? Done. Entrepreneurs, and especially the top dog real estate investors, purchase the top business and marketing books, read the top websites, and go to the best seminars and workshops. They join associations and network with other successful people. They love growth and will invest time, energy, and money into their growth.
- Commit to diligence
Highly successful people are super diligent. They are on top of their game. They don’t just wait for success to fall from the sky; they create success little by little, day by day. They understand the importance of being diligent. Creating and building a successful business takes hard work, diligence, perseverance, and a positive attitude. You may hit some obstacles or even fail a time or two, but be diligent to get right back up, learn from the setback, and get moving again.
- Commit to managing money wisely
Highly successful people understand the importance of cash flow. They’re set on setting budgets and sticking to them. Spending money wisely on expenses and future investments is a priority. If you can’t manage your money, you will be doing a lot of work for little reward. If you need help managing your money, hire a financial advisor to keep you accountable and teach you how to do so.
- Commit to enjoying the journey
Many highly successful people understand that experiencing joy along their journey is important. Sure, they experience the kind of days that don’t go as planned, and may even suffer a failure or two, but they don’t let it take them under emotionally. They’re not in it solely for the money or prestige. If you’re in something solely for the money, the passion probably won’t be there and creativity will be stifled. If you commit to enjoying the journey, no matter how tough it gets, work will be easier for you. And, believe it or not, your good attitude and vibes will actually attract more success to you.
These are simply a few things that highly successful people commit to doing. Do you recognize yourself in some of them? I hope that you continue to grow personally and professionally. Keep in mind that you can be as successful as you want to be, learning valuable lessons about life and business all along the way.
